Effective: Aug. 24, 2026 | Last updated: Aug. 24, 2026
Artisano Inc. (legal name: アーティザノ株式会社) ("Artisano", "we", "us") operates artisano.jp. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it. Our company is operated from Japan, under the laws of Japan. The governing language of this Privacy Policy is Japanese. This English version is provided for reference; where there is any conflict, the Japanese version prevails.
We are established in Japan and handle personal information in accordance with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI). If you are in the United States, Section 12 of this document also applies.
We ship worldwide, except to the European Union, the European Economic Area, and the United Kingdom.

Article 32(1) of the APPI requires our name, address and representative to be kept in a state where you can ascertain them — and that expressly includes answering without delay on request. We meet it that way: email privacy@artisano.jp, or call +81 50-7117-2855, and we will give you our address without delay, at no charge and without asking your reason.
2. What we collect
You give us: your name, email address, telephone number, delivery and billing addresses, gift messages, correspondence with our support team, product reviews and survey responses.
We collect automatically: order history, items viewed, cart contents, IP address, browser and device type, language and locale settings, cookie and similar identifiers, timestamps, referring URLs.
Others give us: payment authorisation and fraud-screening outcomes from our payment processor, delivery status from carriers and customs brokers, and — if you use social sign-in — the profile fields you authorise that provider to release.
Payment card numbers are collected directly by our payment processor. We do not receive or store full card numbers.
If we buy secondhand goods from you: Japan's Secondhand Articles Dealer Act requires us to verify and record your name, address, occupation and age. We may ask you to produce identification for this purpose. This is a legal obligation we cannot waive.
3. Why we use it

Providing your name, delivery address and contact details is necessary for us to enter into and perform a contract of sale with you. Everything else is optional.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information; the advertising cookie flows described in Sections 7 and 12 are the only thing that could be characterised that way under some US laws, and you can opt out of them. We share it with:
- E-commerce platform and hosting providers — running and serving the store
- Payment processors — authorising and settling payments and screening for fraud
- Carriers, freight forwarders and customs brokers — delivering your order and clearing customs
- Email delivery providers — sending order confirmations, shipping notices and newsletters. We manage customer relationships in-house; no external CRM provider receives your data.
- Analytics and advertising providers — measuring usage and campaign performance
- Craftspeople and workshops — where an item is made to order or dispatched directly, limited to what is needed to make and send it
- Independent sellers — where you buy a Seller Item (Terms, Clause 1.6), we pass the seller your name, delivery address, contact details and order details so that the seller can conclude and perform the sale. Sellers are contractually required to use that information only to fulfil your order and to protect it, and they handle it under their own responsibility.
- Police and other public authorities — where the Secondhand Articles Dealer Act or other law requires it
- Professional advisers and tax authorities — where the law requires it
- A successor — on a merger, acquisition or transfer of the business, subject to the commitments in this policy
5. Sending your goods across borders
To deliver an international order we must give the customs authorities of the destination country your name, delivery address, telephone number and a description and value of the goods. This is a legal requirement of importation and we cannot ship without it.
6. Providers outside Japan
We use service providers established outside Japan. As Article 28 of the APPI requires, we have confirmed that each maintains a framework equivalent to that required of a personal information handling business operator in Japan.

You can refuse cookies through your browser settings, though some features of the store may not work. You can also opt out of analytics and advertising cookies specifically, via our cookie settings, Google's ads settings, and Meta's ad preferences.
Where we disclose cookie identifiers or similar information to a third party who is likely to handle it as personal data, we confirm in advance that the necessary consent has been obtained, as Article 31 of the APPI requires.

9. Security
We maintain organisational, physical and technical safeguards proportionate to the risk, including: defined roles and access permissions; encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest; multi-factor authentication on administrative accounts; logging and monitoring; measures against unauthorised scripts being placed on our site and against interception of data entered into our forms; periodic vulnerability assessment; staff training; and confidentiality obligations in our contracts with processors.
We also assess the legal environment of each country in which personal data is handled on our behalf, and adjust our safeguards accordingly.
No system is completely secure. If a leak or similar incident occurs, or may have occurred, of a kind the APPI requires to be reported — including incidents involving sensitive information, risk of financial harm, a wrongful purpose such as unauthorised access, or more than 1,000 people — we will report it to the Personal Information Protection Commission and notify the affected individuals, or make a public announcement where individual notice is genuinely difficult.
10. Your rights
You may ask us to:
confirm what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy
tell you the purposes for which we use it
correct, add to or delete information that is inaccurate or incomplete
stop using it, erase it, or stop disclosing it to third parties
disclose our records of any third-party provision
unsubscribe from marketing at any time
How to ask. Email privacy@artisano.jp with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We may ask for information to satisfy ourselves of your identity, and if someone acts on your behalf we will ask for a power of attorney. There is no charge for a request to disclose or to notify the purpose of use.
One limitation. Where the Secondhand Articles Dealer Act requires us to create and keep a transaction record, we cannot erase or suspend our use of that record during the statutory retention period.
11. Minors
Our store is not directed at minors, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are under 18, please use the store only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
We do not buy secondhand goods from anyone under 18, as Japanese law prohibits it.
12. United States
Our site uses advertising cookies that pass identifiers and browsing activity to advertising providers such as Meta. Under some US state privacy laws this counts as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising — and may count as a "sale" — even though no money changes hands. You can opt out at any time through the cookie controls on our site, and we honour opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control. Beyond those cookie flows, we do not sell your personal information to anyone.
Whether or not state privacy laws apply to us, we will honour requests from US residents to know what we hold, receive a copy, correct it, delete it, and opt out of targeted advertising. Send requests to privacy@artisano.jp with "Privacy request" in the subject line. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
13. Changes
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. We post the current version here with a revised date. Where a change is material, we will tell you by email or by a prominent notice on the site. If we ever wish to use your information for a purpose not reasonably related to those listed in Section 3, we will ask for your consent first rather than merely notify you.
